English bulldog

The dog of the breed Bulldog is a regular participant in cartoons, movies, TV shows. These animals can be seen on a variety of promotional materials, on the emblems of sports teams – thanks to their colorful appearance and specific history, bulldogs are by far one of the most recognizable dogs.

The first mention of this breed dates back to 1500 – in those days and later, bulldogs were widely used in bloody entertainment called baiting bulls with dogs. Now it seems to us wildness, but in those distant years, and, up to the XIX century, many believed that this makes the meat of the bull more tender.

These unsubstantiated views were extremely widespread, even to the extent that there was even a law in some areas of Great Britain that obligated butchers to poison the bull with dogs before slaughter. English cocker spaniel

The Cocker Spaniel is a breed widely known throughout the world, and in England these dogs have been known since the early Middle Ages. Cute animals, which now play the role of companions, in those ancient times were mainly used during the hunt for woodcocks and other birds.

However, some monarchs loved their spaniels so much that they considered them primarily as companions, without parting with them either in bed or at council meetings – this made King Karl ll famous. He even issued a special law that allowed him to appear with a spaniel in any state institutions. Despite the fact that other dogs were strictly prohibited from entering such places.

By and large, the English Spaniel is not much different from its counterpart – the American Cocker Spaniel. In fact, many are interested in what the difference is, and the only definite answer to this is size. Continue reading

English Pointer

The English Pointer is a very famous breed, not only in its homeland, but also beyond. These dogs were widely used back in the 17th century for hunting small and large game. In turn, they came from the Spanish hunting dogs Perro de Punta Espanyol, or the Spanish pointers, which have a very ancient history, and are mentioned by Pliny in the 1st century AD.

Spanish pointers were taught by Christian monks, and after the arrival of Muslim conquerors on the Iberian Peninsula, they were widely used for falconry. The dog found dead prey and stopped there waiting for the owner. This principle of hunting, sometimes somewhat altered (a dog carefully brings game to the owner in its mouth), is used to this day, although firearms have long been used instead of falcons.
