At the beginning of the 20th century in England, several wild entertainment ideas with animal participation were popular today, for example, baiting bulls and bears with dogs. It was for such a fierce and bloody sport that the breed of dogs was created pit bull terrier.

In 1935, this type of entertainment was recognized inhumane and harmful to society, as a result of which it was banned at the legislative level. However, on the site of one forbidden bloody entertainment, they immediately created another – dog fights, where the pit bull terrier breed also gained great fame. This is not surprising – powerful jaws, a strong muscular body, enormous endurance and excellent reaction, wonderful instincts and fearlessness – all these qualities went down in history together with the pit bull terrier. American Staffordshire Terrier (Amstaff)

The American Staffordshire Terrier is a direct descendant of the English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which became famous in its homeland and around the world. The English Staffordshire Bull Terrier came from a cross between a bulldog and a fox terrier, and was used, contrary to popular belief, not only as a fighting dog. It was popular among hunters, in order to knock down wild boars, was used as a protector and guard, also these dogs were often kept by butchers.

In the mid-19th century, many individuals were transported to the United States, where dog owners and breeders established their own breeding program and created their own club. In America, these dogs began to be called amstaff, to somehow distinguish them from English Staffordshire bull terriers.
