Azawak (African Hound)

Azawak is an ancient and rare breed of dog that originated in the Sahara desert, namely in the Sahel region. In this region there is the Azawak Valley – in fact, various legends and beliefs connect the breed with it. In fact, no one can say exactly when this particular breed appeared in the endless sands of the Sahara desert, however, nomadic tribes endow it with a very long history.

Modern researchers agree that the breed numbers at least 2,000 years, and at least the last 1000 years they have been domesticated. The Azawak breed is sometimes also called the Tuareg greyhound, since it is the nomadic Tuareg tribes that are believed to have perfected dogs for centuries. By the way, one of the features is the absence of impurities of any other breeds for almost the last 1000 years, since the Tuaregs generally live quite apart, in addition, they themselves were always primarily interested in maintaining the purity of the breed. Australian healer

The breed of Australian healer was bred in Australia, which follows from the name, during the period of settlement of these areas by the British. And the nickname “healer” happened because the dogs were raised in a herd of cattle, and they grazed cattle by biting them on their lower legs.

The Australian healer today is the result of many years of breeding and crosses that began in 1893, and Continue reading

Australian Shepherd (Aussie)

Despite the fact that the name of the breed literally sounds like an Australian Aussie shepherd, in fact, the breed originated in America. The name sounds that way, because the ancestors of the Aussi – the Scottish border collie – were brought from Australia. In the states, they were crossed with some other breeds, including naturally – through free crossbreeding between neighboring dogs.

The Aussie dog breed was introduced to America around the 1840s, and was widely used in the western states as a shepherd to help graze livestock in the vast expanses. American farmers and settlers greatly valued them for their amazing mind, great devotion and endurance. Thanks to these qualities, the Aussies could endure all the difficulties of life in semi-wild conditions, and provide the person with the necessary support. Continue reading
